Hi, I’m Gill,
I’m an illustrator & surface pattern designer. After training in textile design I spent 15 years working in the textile industry, my love of colour, pattern & texture are key to my work.
I work from my home studio in the coastal village of Silverdale, Lancashire, my work is inspired by the natural world which surrounds us here. I also enjoy working in my sketchbooks, at life drawing sessions, & out & about with the Urban Sketchers This freedom to explore with mark making & composition feeds through into my finished illustrations.
My illustrations start life as sketched layouts, I then draw with my scissors to cut the collage shapes from textured papers. At the moment I often with pages from old books & explore mark making with paints, pencils & crayons. I enjoy the contrast between the cut edge of the shape & the freedom of the mark making. At the moment I’m working on my children’s book illustration portfolio, & dream of one day being published.
My illustrations have been featured in Uppercase magazine, licensed for greeting cards & textile designs.
